Who We Are …

Prescott-Joseph serves as a friendly, helping hand for the community of West Oakland. Prescott-Joseph Center for Community Enhancement, Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized in 1995 in the Prescott district of West Oakland. It evolved out of the conceptual scheme for the adaptive re-use of the former Saint Joseph's Convent (St. Patrick Convent) as a center for community services, education, culture and development in West Oakland.

We offer a wide variety of programs in Family Services, Education, Art & Culture, Health, and so much more.

Some examples include Senior Lunch and BINGO, Theater in the Yard, Introduction to Computers (Spanish), and the Immunization Clinic.

spacer Breathmobile

The Breathmobile® Is Here!

Prescott-Joseph Center is proud to announce the launch of the first ever Northern California Breathmobile, a custom-built mobile pediatric asthma clinic that provides on-going asthma care. The Breathmobile was unveiled at a VIP reception held on Thursday, September 18th at Scott’s Seafood Restaurant in Jack London Square. Over 80 people attended the reception, with special comments from Joe Wong, Port of Oakland, Jean Rogencamp, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Mary Frazier, West Oakland Asthma Coalition, Felitia Jones, Asthma & Allergy Foundation of American, California Chapter, and Pastor J. Alfred Smith. Special presentations were made from representatives from Barbara Lee’s Office, Mayor Ron Dellums office, and Senator Don Perata’s Office.

Public Service Award …

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Burns is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Peter E. Haas Public Service Award. The Peter E. Haas Public Service Award was established by Mrs. Peter E. Haas on the occasion of her husband’s 80th birthday. Its purpose if to honor an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley who, through his or her personal efforts, has made a significant voluntary public contribution within the boundaries of the United States. The focus is on four major areas: community service, health care, environmental work, and education. The award seeks to recognize activity at the grassroots level and illustrate the impact that an individual can have on society through creative social change.
