BAY AREA CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS CENTER

The Regional Technical Training Center (RTTC) will launch a Customer Service Skills Center November 14, 2005 in collaboration with the Business Roundtable, University of Phoenix and the National Retail Federation.
The Skills Center is designed to, first, help customer service employers in retail, hospitality, banking and call centers find and prepare qualified and trained workers that will help them maintain and build their customer base and secondly, build the skill levels of customer service professionals that will lead to improved retention, employee loyalty and career advancement.

The Skills Center offers:

· A place where first time job seekers directly, and through linkage with the One-Stop center system obtain job and career guidance, learn about the challenges and career advancement opportunities available in customer services and retail, assess their skills and interests, develop competencies for high performance work in the industry, obtain access to job vacancies and receive assistance in securing and advancing in them.
· A convenient and accessible location where all levels of incumbent workers can enroll in sales and service training and career development programs that may offer college credit and are linked to degree granting institutions.
· A centralized venue for employers to post available job opportunities and offer potential and incumbent customer service workers with pre and post employment training, assessment and skills training.
· Job fairs and other opportunities for employers to link to the One-Stop system and utilize the Skills Center as a resource for their specialized recruitment and training needs.

The Center will be managed by RTTC, the Business Roundtable and a growing network of employment and training providers with Center activities guided by an Advisory Committee, made up of key employers and customer service training providers.

The Bay Area Customer Service Skills Center will be the only such center in California. There are twelve others located on the east coast, and one is being planned for Los Angeles.
