San Francisco Foundation(S.F.F.) Grant site visit

We submitted a Letter of Inquiry(L.O.I.) and got approval to submit a formal application for $20,000. The site visit will be today, April 12, 2006, at 4pm.

Rose Foundation

Prescott-Joseph Center was encouraged to submit a proposal for Asthma Education to further our efforts to fight asthma in West Oakland. The application for this $5,000 grant went in last week.

Philanthropic Ventures Foundation (PVF)

Bill Somervillle, President of PVF, offered Prescott-Joseph Center for Community Enhancement the opportunity to sign an agreement with PVF regarding availability of funding by PVF in the event of a major disaster. This was approved by our Board of Directors and we have signed the agreement. This is part of Prescott-Joseph’s efforts in Disaster Planning.

Alameda County Public Health Department

Our Executive Director, Washington Burns, M.D. had a meeting with Arnold Perkins, head of the Public Health Dept, the Principal of Prescott Elementary School and Tony Iton, Medical Director of Alameda County on April 7, to talk about the problems in Alameda County. Arnold wanted Dr. Burns to represent West Oakland as a community leader. Included in the discussions were  the County’s disaster plan and how West Oakland, and specifically the Prescott-Joseph Center can be involved.
