Food Pantry Program
In our daily work with families in need in West Oakland, we at Prescott-Joseph had become increasingly aware of the tremendous need for a food pantry in the Lower Bottom of West Oakland.
Previous food banks and pantries have closed (Womens Economic Agenda Project ((WEAP)), Catholic Charities, St. Patrick, Mt. Zion) or are operating marginally. This has left a significant gap in emergency food services for a community that is already depressed with high poverty and unemployment rates.
To fill the increasing gap in food security, Prescott-Joseph Center established the West Oakland Food Pantry. To better serve West Oaklands approximately 24,000 residents who live below the federal poverty line, each month PJCCE will give support to families who are in need of emergency food and other essential supplies.
